Dr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram [38] MS, MCh, is a cardio vascular thoracic surgeon. He is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Madras Medical College, Chennai, India.
He graduated from Madurai Medical College in the State of Tamil Nadu, India, winning academic certificates of merits. He completed post graduation in general surgery from the same institution. He acquired M Ch in cardio thoracic surgery at Madras Medical College.
Dr. Meenakshi Sundaram has been in government service from the inception of his career. He stint as a Medical Officer in government primary health centre in a remote tribal village of Tamil Nadu for four years and, later, as Assistant Surgeon at the government hospital located at a district headquarters, has given him a deep insight into the needs of rural India.
He had participated and led the team in providing primary health care like maternal and child health care, immunization services. He had also implemented national health programmes on polio, tuberculosis, leprosy, HIV and AIDS.
He currently specializes in cardiac surgery, both adult and pediatric and also thoracic surgery. He has so far performed about 150 open heart surgeries.
Dr. Meenakshi Sundaram pursues varied interests particularly Tamil Literature.
He is intensely passionate about serving the cause of the less affluent and wishes to establish in his personal capacity, at a future date, a tertiary care cardiac centre that provides totally free cardiac surgeries to deserving people and also a centre of excellence that would provide treatment, training and research in cardiac surgery.
